2004 saw the first expansion of our model outside The Jazz Cruise. We were asked to manage The Smooth Jazz Cruise, which was a fledgling concept at the time. Here again, the initial sailing was a special "group" program sailing for two weeks, back to back, with 1000 passengers the first week and 800 passengers the second week. Within two weeks after the end of that cruise, we assumed ownership of The Smooth Jazz Cruise and introduced the cruise as a full ship charter, with its initial sailing on the m/s Zuiderdam, one of Holland America's V Class ships (1800 passengers) in January 2005. That sailing was a total sell out and ever since, every year has sold out earlier and earlier. The cruise is in its 9th season (2012), and there have been two sailing in each of the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
In all we have done 15 "smooth jazz" cruises since 2004 and they have been hosted by many of the stars of the genre, David Sanborn, Marcus Miller, Dave Koz, Warren Hill and the late Wayman Tisdale. Nearly every great smooth jazz star has cruised on The Smooth Jazz Cruise, including Candy Dulfer, George Duke, Jonathan Butler, Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Christ Botti, Peter White, Gerald Albright, Brian McKnight, Al Jarreau and so many others. The Smooth Jazz Cruise 2013 was just announced and it features the legendary George Benson, along with its usual amazing array of talent.
The Smooth Jazz Cruise presents the finest stars in the smooth jazz world together with other music, comedy and fun targeted for adults. There is a spirit and an elan that is palpable on The Smooth Jazz Cruise which has led us to call the cruise "The Greatest Party at Sea", a moniker very well deserved.
